The claim on the table

“Every region is warming.”

The global line rises. The claim looks safe. Then draw the bands separately.

The verdict, and it is not simple

Is it a true claim?

A student who argues it is still defensible is not wrong — that is the discussion, and it is the point of the dive.

Worth knowing, not required: the Southern Ocean overturns, bringing deep cold water up. The flat panel is physics, not error. So the honest answer is yes, and say which band you mean.

The three questions
  1. Where does this series start and end, and who chose that?
  2. Does the evidence reach the claim?
  3. What one word would you add to the claim to make it survive?

small multiples

The same chart repeated once per group, so you can see whether the pattern holds everywhere.

What it leaves outEach panel is small, so only a large difference survives at that size. If the panels do not share one scale, they cannot be compared.
